August 19th saw the SOS Kit Aid 10th Spring Golf Day take place at Ullesthorpe Golf Club, South Leicestershire. Originally planned for May, and then July, we got there eventually, despite Covid! The weather was kind, the beer buggies in full flow and the golf well…… average at best!!
Prizes Galore
There were some stunning prizes on offer, including a new car, courtesy of Andy Lane at Lane Pearson UK of Bristol, and a Rugby World Cup Finals package 2023 (in Paris), courtesy of Mark Gardner MSG Tours of Derby. There were golfing prizes galore with main Sponsor, Ashley Rowden 1st Class Logistics of Reading, who came along to make the main presentations.
A huge thanks also goes to our other sponsors and volunteers and of course those who took part on the day, especially the Golf Manager, Dave Evrall, for all his expertise and the Golf Pro, Jon Salter, for his generosity.
Apres Golf in the evening took the form of Britain’s top, blind comedian, Jamie Macdonald. The 6ft 5in Glaswegian has a unique brand of observational humour, which is currently making him a hit on national TV and radio. We were delighted he could join us again.
We were also treated to a frank and honest view of the recent Lions trip to South Africa, by former Wales and Lions legend, John Taylor, alongside former top rugby referees Dave Pearson and Ashley Rowden.
The evening was finished off at a local country pub for snacks and more hydration! Big congratulations to those who made it back to the hotel just before day break for some much needed sleep!
Thanks to everyone for making this a stunning day, to raise much needed funds to enable recycled rugby kit to be transported around the world, to benefit disadvantaged youngsters.
